Spaces & Traces: Featuring Walker's Point

Come visit us during Historic Milwaukee's 37th Annual Spaces and Traces event, featuring the Walker's Point neighborhood. Walker’s Point not only boasts some of Milwaukee’s most intact historic buildings, reflecting our city’s industrial past, but also new development, restaurants and businesses showcasing Milwaukee’s future. Come see this historic building, built in the 1800's where Scathain is still building furniture with those old world techniques. This is a paid event, and tickets may be purchased from Historic Milwaukee.

Doors Open Milwaukee 2017

Doors Open logo_horizontal_BLUE.jpg

Doors Open Milwaukee is a two-day public celebration of Milwaukee’s art, architecture, culture and history. This event offers behind the scenes tours of more than 150 buildings throughout Milwaukee’s downtown and neighborhoods and in-depth tours led by community leaders. Doors Open sites include commercial properties, sacred spaces, apartment buildings, breweries, art galleries, community gardens and more stretching from downtown to the surrounding suburbs, and the neighborhoods between.

Doors Open Milwaukee’s goals:

  • Showcase the architecture and community stories of Milwaukee’s downtown and culturally diverse neighborhoods
  • Raise awareness of the critical role design plays in a vibrant and livable city
  • Welcome exploration and improve perception of new neighborhoods
  • Foster pride in Milwaukee and the built environment

Come experience Scathain behind the scenes. Take a 30 minute tour and see how glass, metal, and wood come together to create high end furniture – all handcrafted by our finishers, blacksmiths, and woodworkers. Visitors will also learn about the history of the building, ranging from a printing press to a glamorous bowling alley. In the shop basement you can still see the horse parking from the 1800's, complete with visible stalls and brick path. If you look closely, you can even see a footprint in the cement dating back more than 150 years!

July Gallery Night

GALLERY NIGHT                          JULY 21, 2017

Get ready for Gallery Night at Scathain, Friday, July 21st from 5-10pm.

We’re opening the doors and filling our shop with the sweet tunes of duo Janet Schiff and Victor DeLorenzo of Nineteen Thirteen.

Three artists are on display, with tours of the building provided by us! Artist Carlos Schmitt explores time and space in a physical allegory of brushstroke and paint. Our own Eli Rosenblatt examines the current American political frontier, and John Chirillo engages new American techniques in layer painting and dry painting.

Don’t worry, we didn’t forget the beer. Our neighbors at Mobcraft are rolling over their tap box to keep us hydrated all evening.

We’re makers and so are our friends. Don’t miss the party.

To celebrate our new Walker's Point neighbors, we will be serving complimentary MobCraft beer, and will be joined by the owner of the new brewery, Henry Schwartz. Sip a beer while you meet the mastermind behind it.

There will also be some sort of local food, yet to be determined, and parking available. If you are looking for a one stop shop of art, food, and beer on Gallery Night, look no further than Scathain.

October Gallery Night

Scathain will be participating in October Gallery Night, showcasing our gallery space while offering light snacks and drinks.

In addition to opening their own gallery, Scathain will feature the sculptures of Teresa Lind and the mosaics of Indie La Londe.

Teresa Lind works in bronze, iron, and aluminum metals to depict feminine women active in what are thought of as traditionally male professions. She received her BFA from UW-Oshkosh and her MFA from UW-Milwaukee. She also was educated as a sculptor in Italy at the Florence Academy of Art. Teresa currently teaches at UW-Whitewater.

Indie La Londe is a Milwaukee artist who explores abstraction through mosaic, painting, and sculpture. Influenced by qualities of architecture, atmosphere, and patterns of nature, her mosaics are a collaboration with the environment that surrounds them.

Gallery Night - Through Our Looking Glass

Our work is all around Milwaukee - Pizza Man, the Iron Horse, Harley-Davidson and more - but few have had the pleasure of visiting our shop and meeting our artists. During the Third Ward Gallery night, we will be opening our doors to allow you to see where we turn metal, wood, and mirror into functional pieces of art.

Of course, what party would be complete without a door prize? Everyone who pays us a visit will be entered in a drawing to win a walnut and mesh mirror serving tray, a Scátháin original.

Tickets are free, but please RSVP.
